Configuration Steps for Manual Install of MOM 2005 SP1 Agent on ISA 2006 SE Server

As you interact with the ISA 2006 Rules more you realize understanding the ISA 2006 System Policies and Monitoring the Health and Performance of each respective Server go hand-in-hand. In this Blog entry I review a Manual Installation of the MOM 2005 SP1 Agent on an ISA 2006 SE Server. These entries include the modifications to System Policy and required Global Configuration changes required by the MOM 2005 SP1 Management Server to support Manual Agent Installations.

Installation Steps for the ISA 2006 Management Pack for MOM 2005 SP1

It's important to realize that when using Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006 as an Application Layer Firewall you can rely on MOM 2005 SP1 to offer valuable Alerting, Monitoring and Event Response capabilities. In this Blog entry I review the installation steps for the ISA 2006 Management Pack Installation. Installation Steps for the Live Communication Server 2005 SP1 Management Pack for MOM 2005 SP1

Maintaining availability of LCS2k5 SP1 is critical when an Enterprise begins to rely on Instant Messaging in a similar fashion to e-mail. The LCS2k5 SP1 Management Pack for MOM2k5 SP1 offers good general Alerting, Service Availability Info and Rules Processing. Unfortunately, this Management Pack does not offer Reporting. I am sure the next version will based upon the 'new tight' integration from Microsoft on Unified Communications.

Installation Steps for the Windows Base Operating System Management Pack for MOM 2005 SP1

Configuring the Windows Base OS MP for MOM 2005 SP1 is relatively straightforward. The benefit it provides include a number of the relevent 'health indicators' for the Operating System. It should be used in conjunction with the many other available Management Packs to provide an aggregate view of the health of Servers in your environment. The downloadable MP is available here - Windows Base Operating System Management Pack for MOM 2005 SP1.

MOM 2005 SP1 Event Rule Creation - System Log Event Rule for Event ID 6009

One of the Events inserted into the System Event Log for Windows 2003 (and Windows 2000 for that matter) when a System is Started is Event ID 6009. In this example I will create a MOM 2005 SP1 Rule Group to place Rules specific to Server (System) Reboots, then create an Event Rule specifically for parsing System Event Log data for Event ID 6009. We could use this same process for parsing (pulling) any other System Event Log Event ID of interest.
